Day by day
Day 1 – Lisbon: monuments and neighbourhoods. Start in Belém with the Jerónimos Monastery and the Belém Tower, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and a warm pastel de Belém. In the afternoon, explore the grand squares of Baixa and the lanes of Alfama, and end at a viewpoint over the Tagus.
Day 2 – Sintra, Cascais and Estoril. Drive into the hills of Sintra to visit the Pena Palace and the gardens. After lunch, follow the coast to Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of mainland Europe, then Cascais and Estoril.
Day 3 – West coast: wine, waves and a monastery. Head north to a family winery in Lourinhã for a visit and an included tasting. Continue to Nazaré, home of the world’s biggest surfed waves, for lunch by the sea. Visit the Monastery of Batalha, a Gothic masterpiece and UNESCO site, then continue on to Porto for the night.
Day 4 – Aveiro, a day trip from Porto. From your Porto base, we head out to Aveiro, the “Portuguese Venice”, to see its canals, colourful moliceiro boats and Art Nouveau houses, and taste ovos moles, the local sweet. We return to Porto in the afternoon.
Day 5 – Porto and port wine. Discover São Bento station and its azulejo tiles, the Cathedral and the Ribeira riverfront. Cross the Dom Luís I Bridge to Vila Nova de Gaia for a tasting in a port wine cellar. The journey ends in Porto — drop-off at your hotel or the airport, and the route can be customised on request.
