Your day
Morning – Pena Palace. We leave Lisbon around 9 am and reach Sintra in about 40 minutes. First stop is the Pena Palace, the colourful 19th-century fantasy built for King Ferdinand II on top of the Sintra hills. With priority tickets you go straight in, then walk the terraces for views that reach the ocean on a clear day. Sintra’s palaces and gardens are part of a UNESCO World Heritage cultural landscape.
Late morning – Sintra old town. Back down in the village, we stroll the lanes around the National Palace and stop for a travesseiro or queijada, Sintra’s traditional pastries. If you prefer, we can swap this time for Quinta da Regaleira and its famous initiation well.
Lunch. A relaxed lunch at a local restaurant of your choice. Your guide will suggest places for every taste and budget.
Afternoon – Cabo da Roca and the coast. We drive through the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park to Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of mainland Europe. We then follow the coast to Boca do Inferno and the elegant bay of Cascais, with free time to walk the marina and old town.
Return. We return to Lisbon along the seaside road through Estoril, arriving at your hotel around 5 pm.
